Home League
This past week the ladies met for some serious planning! We got together to plan our programs, activities, and field trips for the next 6 months. We have such exciting things planned - and we want you to be a part of it! Keep your eyes open each week for our program announcements. It's great fun, and all ladies are welcome!

This Tuesday the Home League ladies are each bringing some "white elephant items" to be auctioned off as a small fundraiser for our Home League fund. Bring an item or two to add to the sale, but also be prepared to bring along your pocketbook so you can bring home a few treasures of your own!

Join us at 10:00 am each week for fun, fellowship, and the support of other women!

Sunbeams and Explorers
Explorers (boys aged 6-10) are continuing along on their "Olympics" emblem, and having a great time with sports! This week they will focus on the game of basketball. The Sunbeams (girls aged 6-10) are doing well on their "Bird Study" Emblem, and are loving learning about nature.

Girl Guards and Rangers
The Girl Guards (Girls, ages 12-18) are focusing on "The Sky Above" emblem, learning about planets in our solar system. The Rangers (Boys, ages 12-17) are VERY close to earning their entrepneur badge, even creating "fake" stock portfolios to learn how to manage and invest funds!

JR. YPL/YPL
Jr. YPL (grades 5-6)is rolling along with several new members, as they meet each week for devotions and time in our game room. YPL (Grades 7-12) learned a little about being or becoming a person who pretends to be a Christian.

Brass Band
The Jr. Band is preparing for to accompany congregtational songs in our Sunday Worship Service for October 7. They will be playing Amazing Grace, Jordan's Banks, and Austria.

We invite you to find out more about the gift of music through our Jr. Band program. In addition to musical training, there are also opportunities for small group learning and instruction. We meet in the Chapel every Thursday at 4:30 pm. Don't miss out!

Bible Bowl
Bible Bowl is a competetive Bible memorization program, where teams comprised of young teens compete in championships for yearly bragging rights! Last year, the Vancouver Corps was named the Northwest Divisional Champions and went on to compete in the Territorial Campionships in Southern California!

This year's Bible Bowl "season" has begun. For the next few months our team of teenagers will be studying and literally memorizing the books of Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon. We're excited to see all these young people will accomplish!

Exercise Club
We have started our new month using the "Walk Away the Pounds" DVD program. Five of us we in attendance this week, we'd like to have more join in this fellowship.

We invite you to join us every Friday at 6:30 pm for one hour of exercise (always at a beginner's level), as well as some laughter thrown right in!

Sunday Morning Prayer Focus
At 9:15 Sunday morning we open the Sanctuary for a time of focused prayer. We begin with a few minutes of shared prayer, where we bring our own personal requests to pray over as a group. This is followed by a time of quiet and personal prayer, with a written prayer focus provided as a guide.

There were 8 of us in prayer meeting today. That's a great thing! Today's prayer focus was a reminder that the best way to know God in a real way is to spend time in prayer and to begin to focus on learning the Scripture.

We invite you to join us for this time of prayer each Sunday morning, immediately followed by our Sunday School and Bible classes.

Every Sunday the sounds of laughter, singing, and learning rolls through our building during our Sunday School hour! Our Assembly (9:15-9:30am) kicks everything off, followed by classes for every person and every age.

Sunday Worship
Message
Today's sermon helps us to identify a counterfeit Christian. WARNING: This is not to be used on others, this is for the purpose of self-examination.

The United State Treasury Department trains it agaents to indentify conterfeit bills not by showing the variety of conterfeit that has been done, but by train them for hours and hours about the autheticity of a real bill. They examine the real bill for so long, they are so familiar with the real bill, that counterfeits are easily identified.

In the same way 1 John 3:1-10 is going to train us about conterfeit Christians.

1 John 3:1-3 -It is in God's love that we find out:

what we are, "children of God."
what we will be, "we will be like Him."
what we should be, "purified."

1 John 3:4-8 - We find that Christ appeared for two reasons:

"to take away our sins"
"to destroy the works of the devil"

1 John 3:9-10 - We learn the Spirit lives in us, "No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him."

Remember, all of these ideas are for us to understand what it is to be the real thing. Not to judge others. Not to condemn others, but to examine ourselves to be sure we are living for Him.

Southwest Washington United Praise Meeting
A great time was had by all who were in attendance. Over 80 people enjoyed a drama presentation by the Wahougal New Life Fellowship, music from the Vancouver Corsp Worship Team, and a Bible lesson about "Our Strong Anchor: Jesus" by Pastor Sam.

This is a quarterly united praise meeting. Watch for more details about the next meeting to be held in January or February.

Please pray for Peggy and Monte’s cousin, Cyndi. After being cancer free for 6 years, her cancer has returned.
Please pray for Major Marian Hanson. Her heart disease is progressing, and there is no treatment.
Please pray for Dilbert Perdue as he recovers from knee surgery
Please pray for Johnathan F. as he continues to recover from a serious knee injury
Please pray for Bill, a volunteer at our food warehouse. He recently broke his leg and is in need of God’s healing touch
Please pray that God will bring more volunteers to our Stop Hunger food Warehouse, and Family Services office. The need right now is great!
pray for the wife of Ralph Medina, one of our volunteers. His wife continues to suffer from a heart/lung condition that is only worsening.
Continue to pray for Judith, the wife of our custodian, Jerry. She continues to receive cancer treatments and is responding well. Also pray that they will both come to know the Lord.
Please continue to pray for Bill Hibbard, a friend of Peggy and Monte, who is undergoing cancer treatment. The cancer in his stomach and glands appears to be gone, but there is still cancer in his bones.
Please pray for Major Don Pack's health
Please pray for Nina’s grandson, Samuel.

JR. YPL/YPL
Jr. YPL (grades 5-6)is rolling along with several new members, as they meet each week for devotions and time in our game room. YPL (Grades 7-12) actually left the property to play a rousing game of "touch it tag". The teens split into 3 teams, and drove to various places of business to find and "tag" items - everything from black VW bugs to a fire hydrant, to a crosswalk button, to a book written in German. It was great, hilarious fun!

Nursing Home Visitation
This past week Captain Ronalee and Elvira went to the Discovery Nursing home to share 2 Worship Services that revolved around the idea that God knows us intimately - even before we were born! What a wonderful message to share, that we are all precious to the Saviour! More than 30 residents attended the Worship Services, with smiles, hugs, and prayers shared.

Join us when we visit Discovery Nursing Home again on October 18th. It's always a blessing!

The Jr. Band is already learning in leaps and bounds, preparing for its first performance in a Sunday Worship Service! We are excited about all this little group will accomplish this year - and it's open to anybody willing to learn! We have people of all ages involved....all that's required is that you want to learn to play a brass instrument.

Our leader has been travelling in Austrailia for the past two weeks, but is returning this week! On Thursday we will be resuming our singing rehearsals, and we look forward to the wonderful songs of worship that we will continue to learn.

Even though we got kind of a late start with the bowling we seemed to have a pretty good time at Big Al's. Eight people showed up for bowling and only three of us attend the Corps regularly (That means there were 5 people who were first timers).

Sunday Worship
Message
Today's sermon shows us that we need to watch for those who may to try to sway us from our faith.

1 John 2:18-19 - John shows us there is some urgency in our faith. We need to be careful to understand that there is some clock running, and when it hits zero, that's it. Rather, it's about the fact we don't know what each day holds for us. We need to be faithful to Him, and we will have the assurance of eternal life with Him.

1 John 2:19 - Here is a warning about those who may go out from us. Because of doctrinal differences or a personal conflict some choose to leave the church. A person who departs the church because of personal conflicts may be able over come that conflicy. But a person who chooses not to be a part of the fellowship because of their wrong interpretation of the Bible or doctrine, denies the truth and embrases the only thing left: lies.

1 John 2:24-25 - On the other hand, in our staying faithful to the truths that we have learned, we find eternal life.

Eternal Life, this should be the hope of every believer.

Home League
This past week 17 ladies gathered in Hazel Dell Park for a potluck picnic and games. The food was FABULOUS - thank you to all the ladies who brought everything from homemade lasagne, to salads, to chicken and rice, to freshly baked chocolate muffins! Unfortunately, the weather did NOT cooperate. We were COLD! But, the fellowship was wonderful, and we certainly did enjoy each other's company.

This Tuesday the Home League will meet at the Church building for a planning meeting, where we will discuss what programs we will have for the next several months.

Mark preached a sermon that should that God does not love everything, and neither should we.

1 John 2:12-17, gives us a warning to not love the world.

The first thing to point out is that the warning is not in regards to God's creation. Rather, it is in regards to the sin that has become so prevelent in our world. If we are to be God's children, then we must recognize that just because something looks, tastes, or feels good that it should be a part of our life.

There is a creature that roams the seas that many people are afraid of. I happen to think that its elegant, swift, and sleek. Yes, I like sharks. But that does not mean that I am going to swim right out and try to hand feed one like its a pet.

The things of this world will pass away. So what does God want us to do then? His will. It is in doing God's will that we will have eternal life.

Craft Club
On Monday, the first meeting of our ladies Craft Club met for scrapbooking. What a wonderful time we had! The scheduled 90 minutes flew by as we shared pictures and stories, and began to get a better ideas as to how we could create and design scrapbooks.

We invite you to join us for the Craft Club on the first Monday of every month at 6:30 pm. Next month we will offer a craft project....stay tuned to find out what craft we will do, and what the cost will be. We hope to see you there!

Home League
This past week Carol P. led the final of three lectures on the Social Secrity System. It was a very difficult subject to explain and address, and we thank Carol for the hard work she put into studying for the lectures, and for all of the resources she provided for us.

This Tuesday the Home League will meet at Hazel Dell Park for a pot luck picnic and games - it will be fun!

Sunbeams and Explorers
Youth programs began again this week! The Sunbeams (Girls, ages 6-11) are working on their Bird Study Emblem, and spent the evening creating bird mobiles. The Explorers (Boys, ages 6-10) are working on a sports emphasis, spending the evening learning the rules and techniques to be experts in "Four Square"!

We are proud to welcome Danny Tomko as a new member of our Youth Ministries staff at the Church, working along side Quinton Markham to further develop our youth and young adult ministries. As part of his responsibilities, he has taken on leadership of the Explorers!

Girl Guards and Rangers
The Girl Guards (Girls, ages 12-18) got re oriented so they could finish their long awaited Arists Emblem, and the Rangers (Boys, ages 12-17) got busy finishing the work on their Entrepnureal Emblem they began before the Summer Break. The meeting room were full, and everything was in high swing.....it's going to be a great year!

JR. YPL/YPL
We held the first meeting of the school year for these two fellowship groups. Several young people have "graduated" from the Tuesday night Jr. Programs to the Jr. YPL (5-6th grade fellowship), so the excitement level was high! While the junior fellowship met for devotions and time in the game room, the YPL (Jr. High/High School fellowship) met for outdoor games and challenges. There was a lot of laughter going on!

Nursing Home Visitation
On Thursday morning we went to the Discovery Nursing Home to visit with residents and lead two worship services. The theme was "The Power and Truth of Scripture", sharing Scripture verses and poetry reminding us of the beautiful gift God gave us in the form of the Holy Bible.

Join us when we visit Discovery Nursing Home again in two weeks! It's always a blessing!

Jr. Band
The Jr. Band is already learning in leaps and bounds, preparing for its first performance in a Sunday Worship Service! We are excited about all this little group will accomplish this year - and it's open to anybody willing to learn! We have people of all ages involved....all that's required is that you want to learn to play a brass instrument.

We invite you to find out more about the gift of music through our Jr. Band program. In addition to musical training, there are also opportunities for small group learning and instruction. We meet in the Chapel every week at 4:30 pm. Don't miss out!

Songsters
Songsters is The Salvation Army's term for "Church Choir". Although our Songster Brigade is quite small - more of an "ensemble" - this week we began learning some absolutely beautiful pieces we know God will use to bless and touch people in their worship.

Our leader is currently travelling out of the country (hurry back, Carol!), but as soon as she returns in two weeks, we will resume our weekly rehearsals.

We invite ANYONE who is interested in singing their praises to the Lord to join us in the sanctuary for rehearsals every Thursdays at 6:15 pm.

Bible Bowl
Bible Bowl is a competetive Bible memorization program, where teams compete in championships for yearly bragging rights! Last year, the Vancouver Corps was named the Northwest Divisional Champions and went on to compete in the Territorial Campionships in Southern California!

This year's Bible Bowl "season" began on Thursday, with the first meeting of this year's team. For the next few months they will be studying and literally memorizing the books of Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon. We're excited to see all these young people will accomplish!

Exercise Club
Friday was the first meeting of our weekly Exercise Club. Our bodies are a spectacular gift from God, and we honor Him when we take care of it! Our first meeting featured an instructional Tae Bo video, followed by a short beginners workout. Although we did burn a few calories, even better was the laughter and comraderie in the room!

We invite you to join us every Friday at 6:30 pm for one hour of exercise (always at a beginner's level), as well as some laughter thrown right in!

Friday night was our very first, EVER Young Adult Fellowship!

Sunday Morning Prayer Focus
At 9:15 Sunday morning we open the Sanctuary for a time of focused prayer. We begin with a few minutes of shared prayer, where we bring our own personal requests to pray over as a group. This is followed by a time of quiet and personal prayer, with a written prayer focus provided as a guide.

This week our focus was based on the selfless prayer of St. Francis of Assisi:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life

Message
This Sunday's message, brought by Captain Ronalee, focused on 1 John 2:7-11, where we are encouraged to look at love in a new way. We are reminded that the command to love, in and of itself, isn't new. However, we should be motivated to love not because we are afraid of the "law" (what will happen if we DON'T love), but because our relationship with Christ is so real and deep that it affects the way we think, feel, and act towards others. We were reminded that our decision to either love or NOT love affects not only our own personal relationship with Christ, but the health and strength of the Church body.

This summer has brought incredible growth to our congregation! We enrolled 6 new Community Care Ministries members, 3 new Home League members, and welcomed 7 new transferred Soldiers! The Vancouver Corps is on the move.....why don't you join us and be a part of where God is leading?

Home League
This past week Carol P. led the second in three lectures on the Social Secrity System. Very interesting, and lots of differing (and strong!) opinions were shared! Carol also brought a presentation of pictures from her recent mission trip to Taiwan, where she participated in leading a Music Camp for The Salvation Army in a group home for boys. She shared wonderful stories, and a fanastic report of what The Salvation Army is doing in that area of the globe.

This week we will have our 3rd and final lecture on the Social Security System - we look forward to it!

**NEW PROGRAMS BEGIN THIS WEEK! We would like to invite you to our new craft and scrapbooking group that will meet for the first time on Monday evening, September 10 @ 6:30pm! This program will regularly meet on the 1st Monday of the month. Don't forget to also attend our Women's Bible Study which meets on the 3rd Monday of the month, also at 6:30pm.

Sunday Morning Prayer Focus
Every Sunday morning we now open the Sanctuary from 9:15 - 9:30 am for a time of quiet prayer and dedication. This morning 7 of us gathered in a circle for a time of corporate prayer, and then took time for private prayer.

A printed prayer focus is made available, and this week's focus was on learning to pray continually, and at all times. Our continous prayer should include times of quiet when we learn to listen to and recognize God's voice.

Message
1 John 1:5-2:6 has several revealing passage that fit neatly into three specific catagories:

Covering our sins

Confessing our sins

Conquering all sin

Now the first topic Covering our sins is not a suggestion on good Christian living. It is, however, something everybody tries to do in their life sometime. What we need to understand is the importance, as believers not to cover, but Confess our sins. It is then, and only then the we can Conquer all sin.

If you want to take away one important portion of this passsage it should be 1 John 2:5a, "But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him.

Home League
This past week 11 ladies took a wonderful trip to Mt. St. Helens. The weather wasn't cooperative - the cloud cover was so thick you couldn't see the volcano! However, the fellowship in the van and the many sightseeing stops along the way made it all worth it.

This week we will enroll 3 new ladies, as well as begin the first of four seminars in a series, sharing information on the Social Security system. Carol P. will be leading these wonderful seminars, and we look forward to all we will learn.

Summer Day Camp
The Day Camp stayed in house this past week, enjoying music, crafts, videos, recreation, and badge time. The Rangers (boys age 11-16) took a trip to the boat docks, the Girl Guards (girls age 11-18) made final preparations for their fundraising barbecue, and the Sunbeams (girls ages 6-10) began working on the flower study badge!

This week the kids will be travelling to the Oregon Zoo on what will be one of the last field trips of the summer. Interested in going on our final field trip on August 22nd? Contact Quinton Markham and let him know!

Sunday School
With Quinton and his family on vacation this week, Jamie S. took over leadership of the Sunday School Assembly and did a fantastic job! We had 21 delegates on their way to the Western Youth Institute visiting, and it was great to have them with us!

Sunday, September 2, we begin our new classes for the year. You won't want to miss that Sunday, because we'll be having a barbecue after Church to celebrate the new program year and to honor our Sunday School teaching staff!

Message
This week we entered into week two of a three week study of the book of Jude.

Week One: Jude 1-7 told us we needed to be "Prepared for Battle". We discovered who the enemy is, the promise of victory over the enemy, but most importantly that we as believers must stand firm in the battle we have been called to.

Week Two: Jude 8-16 gives us insight to the enemies tactics, so we can be aware. It would be easy to be deceived by these godless people. But if we are aware of "the pretender", then we can avoid his deception, and move on to a hope of Eternal Life with Jesus.

Girl Guard Barbecue
This week, after our morning worship we had a fantastic fund raising barbecue sponsored by the Girl Guard troop! More than 75 people came to support the girls, and eat FANTASTIC burgers and hot dogs grilled by Willie! Thanks to Stephanie O. for the hard work coordinating not only the menu, but for also securing some great entertainment by bringing in an up and coming music artist, Justin Klump to sing for us while we ate.

Thanks also to Dora and Linda W. who helped coordinate clean up - you are so appreciated!

Home League
This week we enjoyed a wonderful program and lunch brought by Linda C. The food table was decorated with plants and a large mirror - we were each encouraged to look in the mirror and reflect on God's love for us as we served ourselves lunch. What a wonderful challenge, and so beautifully presented. Thank you, Linda!

The Home League is planning a trip to Mt. St. Helens for its next meeting. Please meet at the Corps at 10:00 am, sharp, for this fantastic opportunity! You will need to bring $8.00 if you would like to go into the observatory, and everyone will want to bring a sack lunch. We hope to have you join us!

Summer Day Camp
The Day Camp spent the morning swimming at the Jim Parsley Center. Perfect timing - it was one of our hottest days in a while, at more that 90 degrees. There's no better way to beat the heat than swimming! After swimming, all of the kids went to the park for games and a picnic lunch. It was a great day!

This week the Day Camp will stay on site doing troop badge work, recreation, crafts, and the computer station. Don't miss out on another fun week!

Each Wednesday this summer we do something different.....come at 10:30am to check it out!

Sunday School
Today Sunday School was full, with some of the kids even bringing visitors!

The teen Sunday School class and Corps Cadets have combined for creative lessons this summer, which has been fun for everyone. It won't be long before the Fall is here, and we will be adding a new class - a Young Adult class led by Captain Ron! We look forward to offering something to our young adults that will minister to them and focus on their Spiritual needs.

Sunday Worship
Message
This week we started a three week study of the book of Jude. It starts by explaining that we need to be prepared for battle.

Jude vv. 1-2 introduces us to the author, and then describes who these 'Battle Assignments' are directed to, "To those who have been called, who are loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ."

Jude v. 3- Is the "Call to Arms". Note that Jude really wanted to write an encouraging letter about the salvation they shared. But instead he reminds his readers (that includes us) to "contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints."

Jude v. 4 decribes the enemy. They are godless and deceitful, convincing not just the unbelievers, but infiltrating the ranks of believers and seperating them from the Truth.

Jude vv. 5-7 tells us God promises victory over the troubles that come against us. And, in vivid detail, tells us of the apostate's fate for his godless, deceitful, unrepentant ways.

It is in the this victory we should "stand firm everyone" and "rest our cause upon His Holy Word".

Rouse then soldier, rally round the banner!
Ready, steady, pass the word along;
Onward, forward, shout aloud Hosanna!
Christ is Capatin of the mighty throng.

Women Of The Word
This month the Women's Bible Study started a brand new series called, "Jesus Changes Women". The first study was based on the Old Testament Judge, Deborah, and reminded us that our lives must be rooted deeply in the soil of God's love.

We invite you to join us for our next study on Monday, August 27 at 6:30 pm when we will study the new Testament deaconess, Phoebe, and reflect on Jesus Christ being the center of life!

Home League
This week the Home League went on a terrific tour of the Fort Vancouver National Monument! We explored the main house, bakery and counting house; we observed a lecture and demonstration by the blacksmith, as well as a terrific historical lecture presented by a park ranger. The morning was ended by a wonderful outdoor picnic in the park - what a fantastic day!

This Tuesday we will enjoy a creative program presented by Linda C. and Carol T., revolving around the comedy and marriage relationship of George Burns and his wife, Gracie!

Join us at 10:00 am each week for fun, fellowship, and the support of other women!

Summer Day Camp
This week the kids stayed "in house", working on troop badges. After a great morning in classes and a barbecue lunch (thanks, Captain Ron!) they broke out into craft and recreation groups - a great way to spend a Wednesday!

This next week the entire group will be travelling to the Jim Parsley Center for a morning of swimming and a picnic in the park.

Each Wednesday this summer we do something different.....come at 10:30am to check it out!

Sunday School
Our summer Sunday School is a bit quiet with families on vacation, and several teens working at Camp. However, we still have learning and fellowship for everyone, no matter the weather or season!

Keep your ears open for information on our upcoming promotion Sunday, when kids are assigned their NEW classes for their year!

We invite YOU to join us, every Sunday, at 9:15 am for Sunday School Assembly, and classes at 9:30 am.....we have classes for all ages, including adults!

Sunday Worship
Message
This week we completed our short series on personal worship, by looking at Matthew 4:1-11. This is the passage where Jesus was tempted in the desert by Satan. We were challeneged to begin digging deeper into Scripture, and taking personal responsibility for liviing it out in our daily lives. When Jesus was tempted, He responded to Satan simply by boldly and correctly reciting the Word of God. We should do the same!

United Praise Service
This Sunday we did something completely new and different, in hosting in a United Praise Service with the Washougal Corps at 4:30 in the afternoon. What a GREAT time of praise and fellowship we had! Nearly 40 of us gathered to enjoy the music of the Washougal Praise Team, a beautiful mime presentation brought by Jessica from Washougal, and a piano/vocal solo and testimony shared by our own Stephanie O.! Captain Ron preached a great sermon on unity, and personal purity based on 1 Peter 3:8-17.

The reception afterwards allowed us to get to know folks in each other's congregation, and we all enjoyed ourselves immensely!

Before the evening was over, many people told us how much they would love to worship with Washougal again.....and that's exactly what we plan to do! Many thanks to Samantha Wheeler, the ministry leader of Washougal, for helping us move the thought of our congregations joining together from being just a concept into a reality. We will be meeting with Sam again soon to pick more dates for future praise services!

Let me start this update off by apologizing to our loyal readers for not having new letter over the past month. We had been extremely busy putting together outlines and presentations for Majors Ron and Marilyn Bawden (Ronalee's Parents) retirement. Following that was the Bible Bowl team preparing for the tournament at Commissioning. But now we are back and look forward to keeping you posted as to what is happening at the Vancouver Corps of The Salvation Army.

Home League
This week in Home League we continued working on the Uncle Sam table favors that we delivering to a nursing home next month. Thanks so much to Carol P. for her hard work in heading up this project!

Julie led a program called "The Grace Cafe" - we talked about coffee, health, fellowship, and God's grace. A really neat combination!

Next week the Home League will be traveling over the river into Oregon for a ride on the new Portland Tram - very exciting! We will leave the Church building promptly at 10 am....please bring $4 in quarters so you can buy your ticket at the kiosk. We will end our trip with a lunch together at Sweet Tomatoes Restaurant. Yum!

Troops
Did not meet last week, but are meeting this week. And everybody should mark their calendars for the Youth Awards Banquet, this Sunday following the Morning Worship Service.

Sunday School was a bit quiet this week, with the Markham's on vacation (it's just not the same without Q's guitar).

Mark 13 is a sermon for us all, reminding us that we should be aware of the deciet around us, the temptation that plagues us, and the false faiths that will rise. When we can recognize and deny these things, our faith grows stronger. Then we are prepared and ready for the Second Coming of Christ.

Home League
Home League celebrated Quarterly Birthdays this week. Julie brought a GREAT game for us to play - "Pass the Buck", with a devotional reminding us that in the Body of Christ we need to all work together and avoid "passing the buck"!

This next week will be a work week where we do our final preparations for the Victorian Tea and Bazaar on May 12. There's much to be done - but we know it's going to be a wonderful event! We hope some of you will even be there!

June 9, 2007 the Western Territory will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the international Home League Program in Los Angeles, CA. We are pleased that Major Carol Pontsler and Ellen Hughes will be representing the Vancouver Corps at this Territorial event!

Please check the Calendar of Events on the Corps website to see what our program will be from week to week - we have interesting programs, field trips, parties, and special speakers planned for the rest of 2007.....Come join us at 10:00 am each Tuesday!!

Troops
This week the young people continued with their badgework - the younger girls learning about Home making, the older girls continuing on their artwork, the younger boys learning about soccer, and the older boys planning for future careers. With only 6 weeks left until summer, they are all working hard to complete their badges before our summer programs begin!

Youth Councils
Chosen to Proclaim was the theme for this weekend.

1 Peter 2:9 says, "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."

The message that came across clearly to those in attendance is that we as believers have been chosen to proclaim the "Good News" of Jesus Christ to this generation.

I would say thanks to Captains Rob and Amy Reardon for an opportunity to spend more time with my teens. Good job.

ALSO

For the talent show, three of our wondeful young ladies preformed musical selection. Stephanie played piano and sang a song, then later in the program Ellie and Devon (accompanied by Stephanie) sang a duet. The ladies should be commended for not just putting on a show, because their focus was not on drawing attention to themselves, but expressing their faith in an incredible demonstration of the talents God has given them.

ALSO

Throughout the entire weekend any time the was "free time", our youth group spent these hours raising money in the canteen - not so they can go to some amusement park; not so they can have a nice dinner out. They did it because they have committed to support a child through the Army's child sponsorship program. We are proud of their commitment to help a child in another country!

ALSO

The Vancouver Corps Bible Bowl team will be representing the Northwest Division at the Territorial competition during Commissioning Weekend. Please pray for our team that we will remain faithful to our practices, but more importantly that we will always be faithful to the Word that has been embedded in our hearts.

You will want to be aware that Danny Tomko, a faithful soldier of the Vancouver Corps, received "Youth of the Year" for the Northwest Division. We are very proud of him and look forward to his continued service for Jesus.

Sunday School was a bit quiet this week, with so many people gone for the Youth Councils weekend. However, Mark did a wonderful job leading and making sure the kids had FUN! Next week, with everyone back in town, we will resume our Sunday School competition. The Red team is still in the lead.......go Red team!!!!

Candidate Mark Stearns preached in Captain Ron's place today, focusing on the end of Mark chapter 4, and all of chapter 5 where Jesus is shown to be the Servant who conquers!

In this chapter we see the authority and strength of Jesus Christ as he conquers the physical world (4:35-41), the spiritual world (5:1-20), sickness (5:25-34), and death (5:21-24, 35-43). What a powerful God we serve!

Women Of The Word
This month's attendance was terrific - eleven women! It was great to have Stephanie join us for the first time, too. Our study this month looked at the concept that we CAN find laughter in the pain and difficulty of our lives. God gave us the the gift of laughter, and we should use it to remind ourselves that even when we are hurting, the joy of the Lord is our strength!

Music Programs
This week, due to some scheduling conflicts, we moved our Thursday music rehearsals to Monday. The Jr. Band and Worship Team are coming along nicely, and we are always excited to hear their ministry of music!

Home League
This past weekend Carol P., Ellen and Captain Ronalee attended the Divisional Women's Retreat in Spokane, WA. What a great weekend! The theme was "S.P.A.", meaning "Spiritual and Physical Attention". We were challenged all weekend to seek God for rest, and rejuvination through Bible Study, exercise, and laughter!

At our regular Home League Meeting on Tuesday, we spent the entire two hours working on important projects for our upcoming Victorian Tea and Bazaar Mother's Day weekend. We cut ribbon, edged paper, glued.....folded and sent invitations.....priced items for sale....there is still so much to do! However, we are well on our way to a fantastic, quality event. Thanks to Carol P. for leading us, and for a terrific devotional encouraging us to find the best in each other.

Next Tuesday we will not be meeting at our regular time. Rather, we will be meeting at the local Home Town Buffet at noon for our annual luncheon, where we will celebrate our successes of the year, and crown our "Woman of the Year" for 2007!

Sunbeams
This week we decided to do something completely different - and it was so much fun!

The Sunbeams all loaded into a van, and drove to a local yogurt shop that was handing out free yogurt all evening! It was a neat surprise for the girls, and quite a sight to see 10 girls and leaders huddling under the awning (it was raining....we're in the Northwest!) as they ate their cones. After the yogurt shop, the girls went to the pet store to look at all of God's creation. Their favorite thing to look at? The fish! The animal they deemed the "creepiest"? The ferret!

Explorers
This week the younger boys began a baseball badge. They spent the evening out behind the Church learning to hit a baseball off of a tee, and will soon be learning the rules of the game. Ahhhh.....baseball! America's pastime!

Girl Guards
This week the older girls had a great devotional focus on what it means, exactly, to be a Christian. You would have been proud at some of the thoughtful answers the girls gave! They continue to work on their "Focus On The Arts" badge, enjoying expressing themselves through painting.

Rangers
The Rangers headed outside for some sports and recreation this week - but were rained on! So, instead they shifted gears and spent time talking about math and science, space and time.....itsn't it great that these boys are not just athletes, but have intelligent minds, as well?

Acquire The Fire
On Friday and Saturday, several of our teens went into to Portland to attend the Acquire The Fire youth evangelism conference. The conference focused on what it means to boldly to proclaim Jesus Christ, and our teens truly were inspired and moved to take on the challenge of sounding the battle cry!

Thanks to Quinton for coordinating the logistics, and to Captain Ron and Stephanie for coming along as support!

Sunday School
Our Sunday School contest continues to be TONS of fun, with a handful of people starting to come to Sunday School every Sunday who normally only come to our Worship Service (including adults!!!). The red team is still in the lead, but the blue team is closing in fast.....only time will tell which team is going to win the giant banana split!!!

Remember, each team gets points for attendance, bringing offering for World Services, bringing their Bibles, bringing visitors, and there are mystery "bonus" points each week for the team who can answer a trivia question. (This week's question was, "What two Old Testamant books come before and after the book of Joel?". The Answer: "Hosea and Amos". Thumbs up to Captain Ronalee for being able to answer that question before anyone else!)

Working through our series on the book of Mark, we find that he writes his gospel to an audience of Romans. With the Romans conquering different regions it became apparent that many would become servants of the Romans. Mark not only showed, he emphasised the Servant-side of Jesus and His Ministry. The key verse for our series is Mark 10:45, where Jesus says, "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Home League
This week in Home League Denny and Grace presented a wonderful program on manners. We took an "Emily Post" test on restaurant etiquette (not an easy test to pass in today's fast-food era!), and shared funny stories of our own children's lack of manners at young ages. They also provided an absolutely fantastic lunch for everyone - including strawberry upside down cake!

This coming week we will be focusing strongly on our upcoming Victorian Tea and Bazaar. There is so much to be done!

This weekend, Captain Ronalee, Ellen and Major Carol are attending the Divisional Women's Ministries conference all the way in Spokane - we'll wait to hear all about their trip, and how they were blessed!

Sunbeams and Explorers
Tuesdays continue to provide a great time of fun and learning for our younger children, ages 6-10.

The Sunbeam troop finished their "Shopping" badge, putting together an imaginary menu that would feed the entire troop for only $40 per day! It was a fun challenge for the girls to learn about healthy eating, and responsible budgeting.

Girl Guards, Rangers and Adventurers
Wednesday, our teen night, is packed with excitement!

The Girl Guards are continuing to work on the "Artist" badge, and have also started each meeting with a Bible focus. Thanks so much to Stephanie, who is working so hard to make Scripture relevant, exciting, and interesting to the girls!

The Rangers finished their "Creative Arts" unit this week. They ended the unit by talking about God's own "creative art" in his creation of the universe. It led to interesting discussion about everything from the big bang theory, to what it means to be created in the image of God. We hear that the Rangers will be moving on to a more "physical" unit, next. We can't wait to hear what it is!

Nursing Home Ministry
This week we conducted two "post-Easter" celebration services at the Discovery Nursing Home. We focused on the Easter story, and were reminded that when we have the living Çhrist in our hearts, every morning can be a "resurrection morning" of joy, hope, and peace!

Jr. Band
This week was the first week to use our brand new instruments! They sound and look absolutely amazing. This was also the first week in Jr. Band for both Stephanie and Ellie. It was so good to have new students, and to see them excited about learning to play. We are looking forward to hearing the band play together again, soon.

Next, His authroity even as a Servant

Authority over temptation and Satan (vv. 12-13)

Authority in His Message (vv. 14-22)

Authority in His Voice (vv.23-28)

Finally, the Servant shows his care for the people

For Peter's Mom (vv. 29-31)

For the Masses (vv. 32-34)

Time for Himself (v. 35)

For the unclean (v. 36-45)

The unclean...isn't that each one of us. You can be touched by the Servant today.

Home League
The Home League ladies had so much fun this past week, with Julie in charge of the annual Easter party! Games were played, gifts and cards were quietly passed between "secret sisters", and laughter was heard all around the room.

Thanks to all the ladies for working so hard to fill more than 500 Easter Eggs with candy for this year's annual Easter Egg hunt! The kids had a fantastic time, and there is no way we could have done it without the Home League's help!

In our next meeting, Grace and Denny will be sharing a program titled, "Mind Your Manners". These two ladies always present an interesting and beautifully prepared program. We're truly looking forward to it!

Nursing Home Ministry
Thank you to Mark, Dora, and our "Army" of volunteers for their dedication in bringing an Easter War Cry and bookmark to more than 800 nursing home residents this Easter season! We are so blessed to have had the opportunity to share the miracle of Jesus' resurrection with so many!

This Thursday we will be conducting our bi-monthly worship services at the Discovery Nursing Home. If you are interested in joining us at 10:00 am for a wonderful time of praise and blessing, please contact Captain Ronalee!

Easter Pancake Breakfast
51 of us gathered for a terrific Easter Breakfast, hosted by the men of our congregation. It was a fantastic time of fellowship, with many visitors around the table enjoying pancakes, eggs and sausage. What a treat! A huge thank you to Quinton, Richard, Willie, Danny, Connor, Johnathan, Mark and Captain Ron for a fabulous morning!

Sunday School
We are in our 3rd week of an 8 week Sunday School contest - and man are we having a good time! The entire Sunday School is split into three color groups, and each week the teams compete to earn the most points in the following areas: attendance, bringing your Bible, bringing visitors, and bringing offering for World Services. We also have time for fun and crazy games, as well as some really neat prizes So far, the RED team is in the lead......hoping to win the grand prize of a giant banana split!!!

Thanks to Mark for his hard work in making Sunday School alot of FUN during this contest!

Sunday Worship
Dedication of New Band Instruments
Today, we dedicated the new band instruments that the Vancouver Corps received! The Robert Pontsler Memorial Music Fund made it possible for these 15 new brass instruments to be purchased, and it is our honor to have dedicated their use to the glory of God.

Senior Soldier Enrollment
This morning we had the wonderful privilege of enrolling Marie as our newest Church member. Enrolling a Soldier is a sacred event, and this morning was no different. Marie's comitment to Christ, and desire to make a public covenant was a reminder to everyone present of what it means to be a Soldier of Christ. Although we will be "losing" Marie soon as she marries Erik and joins him in Denver, it was a thrill to be a part of such a special time of dedication!

Easter Message
The resurrection of Christ is what makes the illustrations of the Parable of the Prodigal Son possible.

First, we find a boy rebelling against his father.

Next, he finds himself in circumstances of disgrace and torment.

Then, he comes to his senses, and understands that he needs to admit he has sinned against his father. He is willing to go so far as to denounce himself and simply be a hired hand of his father.

But the father interrupts his son after his repentance, and bestows on him the rights and privileges of being in the family.

That is how God treats each one of His rebellious creations. He listens for their repentance, and in that moment He bestows on us them blessing of being His child.

Easter Egg Hunt
After Church was the "big" moment all of the children had been waiting for - the annual Easter Egg hunt! 25 kids of all ages took their turn to look for real and plastic eggs, and to find all sorts of fun prizes hidden on the property (including ONE POUND chocolate bunnies!). The smiles and laughter were contagious, and it wasn't long before the adults were out joining in the fun, too. We were grateful that the clouds didn't start pouring rain until AFTER the hunt was over.....not a small feat, here in the Northwest!

Home League
What a great day we had! The ladies all worked together to put ribbons on more than 800 bookmarks that we will giving to nursing home residents in celebration of Easter. Thanks to all the ladies for their hard work!

We also had the privilege of re-installing our leaders: Julie (Secretary), Nona (Asst. Secretary), Ellen (Treasurer), Carol P. (Program), Lisa (Chaplain), Mary (Sunshine/Encouragement), Rhonda (Welcome). The best part was welcoming FOUR brand new members into our group! We accepted the transfer of membership of Nona from the State of Georgia, and enrolled Linda, Vi C. and Dora as first time members. Our group is growing by leaps and bounds!

Our next meeting will be an Easter party - Julie's in charge, so you know it's going to be full of fun games! The ladies will also work together to fill 500+ plastic easter eggs with candy, for our Easter Egg hunt after Easter Worship on April 8.

Sunbeams
We continued our work on the Shopping Emblem by going to Wal Mart for a lesson on comparison shopping. The girls had a great time pricing things like pencils, soap, toothpaste, and pain relievers. They even got to choose their own goodie to take home from the dollar bin!

Next week there won't be a meeting, because of Spring Break. But, we'll meet again to finish our work on the Shopping Emblem on April 10.

Girls, come join us on Tuesday afternoons at 4:30PM for a lot of fun and a great time of learning together!

Girl Guards
The older girls (6th to 12th grade) worked very hard to complete their work on The Salvation Army Emblem, and are now studying the Focus On The Arts Emblem. This week the girls all spent time experimenting with water color paints, and came up with some amazing creations!

The girls are making preliminary plans for an overnight lock in at the Church, in May. Their last lock in was a huge success, so we know this one will be even better.

Older girls, be there on Wednesday afternoons at 4:30!! The fellowship and learning is fantastic!

Adventure Corps
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 4:30PM, we have a great scouting program for boys called "Adventure Corps".

On Tuesday, the boys aged 6-10 continued their lesson on communication, by talking about how much television they watch each day. It was an important discussion, reminding the boys that too much television is NEVER a good thing!

The older boys (ages 11-15) met on Wednesday, and continue focusing on the Creative Art badge. As they continue working on this unit, they'll be reminded of the Creation Story, and that God is the ultimate artist.

YPL
This week the YPL and Jr. YPL didn't meet, so that the Bible Bowl team could have additional time to practice for Saturday's big competition. They will meet again on Wednesday, Aptil 11, after Spring Break is over.

Our teens and pre teens are still making plans to attend the "Acquire the Fire" conference next month, as well as our Annual Salvation Army teen retreat called "Youth Councils" in May.

Nursing Home Ministry
The week April 1 we are going to be distributing more than 800 War Crys and Easter book marks to nursing home residents all over Vancouver. More volunteers are always needed! Don't miss out on the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful, seasonal opportunity! Please contact Mark Stearns or Captain Ronalee if you would like more information.

Bible Bowl
Our two teams competed in the Divisional Playoffs this weekend, and did such a great job! We were absolutely amazed at the way they remembered their material, the confidence they displayed, and the wonderful way they represented the Vancouver Corps.

The Vancouver 1 team (Danny, Jamie, Ellie, Connor, Brittney, and Devon) played well enough to advance to the Divisional Finals, which will take place at Youth Councils the first weekend in May. We are extremely proud of them, and will continue to cheer them on as they fight for the title of Northwest Divisional Champions!

Sunday Worship
The Triumphal Entry

Based on the scripture this was a time of preperation for the Messiah to make His move on Jerusalem. While the people thought He was going to make His stand in a physical way, they missed the Spiritual victory He was claiming for everyone who will believe.

Don't miss the message from Jesus Christ. One of the messages will be expalined next Sunday, as the Easter Message will be based on the passage of the Prodigal Son.

Celebrate the Risen Savior at your place of Worship. If you don't have one, come join us.

Home League
This week we started two new projects - quilting squares, and cutting the bookmarks to be used for our Easter nursing home visitation. Many ladies continued on old projects - painting, counted cross stitch, crocheting, and knitting. All 20 of us were very busy!

Our program, brought to us by Carol T. and Lavella, taught us of the history of Ireland as well as a few tradtions of St. Patrick's Day. We were all surprised when Rhonda sang an absolutely beautiful Irish lullaby for us. We had no idea she could sing so well! Carol P. was the hostess and provided a delicious lunch of corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes. If you weren't there, you really missed out!

It was fantastic to have Pearl P. join us for the first time today. After some years attending the Home League in Portland, she has decided to join us here in Vancouver. She spent time today teaching some of the ladies how to crochet - we are so glad to have her.

Next week, Rhonda will bring us a program based on one of her favorite subjects - CATS!

Sunbeams
Sunbeams, our scouting and character building group for girls age 7-11, finished the Native American Lore emblem this week by making corn bread from scratch. Corn was the staple diet of the Native Americans in several regions of the USA, so this was a fun project! When the bread was ready, it was shared with all of the other children in youth programs at dinner time, who declared it "really, really good"!

Adventure Corps
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 4:30PM, we have a great scouting program for boys called "Adventure Corps".

On Tuesday, the boys aged 6-10 had so much fun! They are learning about communication and spent the hour using walkie talkies to try and find each other on our property in a type of "scavenger hunt". The laughter and smiles we saw as they "played to learn" was infectuous!

The older boys (ages 11-15) met on Wednesday, and are focusing on the Creative Art badge. This past week they were reminded that art work is all around us - even on cereal boxes, in comic strips, and through television commercials! As they continue working on this unit, they'll be reminded of the Creation Story, and that God is the ultimate artist.

YPL
This week the the teens and pre teens met together for a Game Room night. They started with a really funny devotional based on Ephesians 4:17-32, focusing on watching the way we talk and making a clean break from profanity, put-downs, and general "nastiness". They even watched a video paradoy of "The Osbournes", called "The Osgoods"! Everybody learned an important lesson on how our mouths can get us into trouble.

We enjoyed the first Wednesday with extended daylight by spending some time just playing outdoors. It's starting to feel like Spring!

Attendance for the night was 13 - some of the regular attenders weren't with us, and a few stubborn teens decided to leave before the devotions even started - too bad! They really missed out on learning about God's Word and how it works in real life!

Our teen fellowship (ages 12-18) and pre teen fellowship (ages 10-11) meets every Wednesday night at 6:15 pm. You don't want to miss what we have in store each week! If you want more information on upcoming programs and events, please contact Quinton Markham.

Nursing Home Ministry
We are currently preparing to visit several nursing homes in honor of the Easter celebration. During the week of April 1, more than 850 residents will be visted and left with an Easter bookmark and an Easter War Cry! If you are interested in helping with this special, seasonal visitation please contact Captain Ronalee or Mark Stearns.

We also conduct Worship Services for the residents of the Discovery Nursing and Rehab center two Thursday mornings each month. We invite you to join us for this wonderful ministry - just check the Calendar of Events on the Corps Website to see when our next visits are scheduled.

Jr. Band
Last Sunday, our Jr. Band did a FANTASTIC job providing music in our Sunday Worship Service. They not only played the music for two hymns, but played a special number for the offertory. We were so proud of them!

The brass band practices every Thursday at 4:30pm, and we could always use more players. If you are a young person, interested in learning more about music while making friends, please contact Quinton Markham!

Bible Bowl
Our teens have been working VERY hard since last Fall to learn as much as they can about the book of Acts, in preparation for our Divisional playoff competition on March 31. We have two teams this year, and with only two weeks to go until the big day they are studying and practicing harder than ever.

Girl Guards
Our older girls (ages 12-18) meet each Wednesday night at 4:30. However, this week they met a 2nd time when six of the girls went to Stephanie's house on Friday night to watch a movie called, "A Night With The King". This fantastic film about the story of Esther had the girls really drawn in! It was a great time for them to learn about ancient cultures and customs, Biblical history, and the real life lesson that God uses the most unusual situations, and the most unlikely people, to bring about His perfect will and plan even when things seem impossible.

Sunday Worship
Wow! The service went great. Our first with a digital projector. I hope you it was helpful to the worship experience. This is not meant to entertain you, but to provide a richer experience of worship as we look at God' Word together each Sunday.

Home League
This past week we continued our many craft projects for the upcoming Victorian Tea and Bazaar in May. Nineteen ladies gathered around the tables to cross stitch, crochet, paint, cut quilting squares...we were quite a busy crew!

Carol Hammond was our program leader for the week and presented a fantastic, creative program called "Accentuate The Positive". She reminded us all how precious we are in God's sight, and how important it is that we work to encourage and build each other up.

Next week, the Home League will be celebrating St. Patrick's Day - you won't want to miss it!

Sunbeams
Sunbeams, our scouting and character building group for girls age 7-11, is going strong! We are coming to the end of our two month unit on Native American Lore, having spent time this week learning about the Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest. We learned about salmon, whales, and totem poles! It will be great for the girls to add this newest emblem to their troop sashes.

YPL
This week the older teens enjoyed a night of fellowship in Oregon, when they went to see a Portland Winterhawks hockey game. We had so many teens go that we had to take two vans! Our younger teens shared in a short devotional, and then challenged each other to hoops and board games at the Church building. Our older teen fellowship (grades 7-12) and younger teen fellowship (grades 5-6) both meet on Wednesdays nights at 6:15 pm.....we always have a great time!

Nursing Home Ministry
Two Thursday mornings a month, we conduct Worship Services for the residents of the Discovery Nursing Home and Rehab Center. We conduct two services - one for the Alzheimer's patients and another for the rest of the residents. This week's services revolved around the theme of reliance of Jesus Christ, with a beautiful red rose as our object of focus. We were reminded that just as God is the only one able to open and unfold the many layers of petals on a rose, God is the only one who is able to open and unfold the many layers of our lives. We can trust Him fully, for as it says in Hebrews 13:8, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever"!

Sunday Worship
It was nice to have Erik Dabis back with us for a Sunday. The Intermountain Divisional Music Director even humbled himself to play with our worship team. By the way, speaking of the worship team, have you noticed the addition of Danny on Bass Guitar? Be sure to let him know how good he's doing.

This week's sermon took us through Doctrine 9 of The Salvation Army Doctrines now.

So far our sermon series has looked like this:

Doctrines 1: The Bible

Docrtines 2 and 3: The Trinity: God

Doctrine 4: The Trinity: Jesus Christ

Doctrine: The Trinity: Holy Spirit

Doctrines 5 and 6: Salvation Provided

Docrtines 7 and 8: Salvation Received

Doctrine 9: Salvation Maintained

Maintaining one's salvation is dependent on one thing - continued obedient faith in Christ. Simply put, a believer's continued faith, should be as their first experience of faith.

To me, ice cream is a wonderful treat. But if you take away the cream and add a substitute, it doesn't taste like ice cream anymore. As a matter of fact it has become something else - a watered down "ice cream" is not ice cream, it's sorbet.

If our faith becomes "watered down", then we are not experiencing the full flavor of God's blessing. Let us not only remember what it was like the moment we first expereinced faith in Christ, but pledge to live in a continued obedient faith through all our days.

Women of the Word
This month we continued our study from the book by Marilyn Meberg called, "God At Our Wit's End". This fantastic series of studies takes us through all of the "faulty thinking" that prevents us frrom fully knowing God. In February, due to the holiday, we met on the 4th Monday of the month and discussed our tendency to think others may have an easier life.

In March we will go back to our regular meeting day of the 3rd Monday of the month, which is March 19. We look forward to talking about the way we sometimes try to hide our true feelings from God.

We begin each month with a pot luck dinner at 6:30 pm, followed by a one hour study beginning at 7:00 pm. We would love to see you there!

Home League
This past week many ladies began learning how to cross stitch on small samplers. It's a lost art, and it's been fun to give it a try! This week we will continue our cross stitching, as well as folding and assembling our annual calendars. Our program this week will be led by Carol Hammond, with the focus: "Accentuate The Positive".

YPL
In Quinton's absence (hope you get to feeling better Q), I had a chance to plan and coordinate the activities for our teens. It seemed they had fun while playing some games that showed that while we are different, we have many similar interests. Looking forward to having Quinton back.

Sunday Worship
I hope you enjoyed our worship service as much as I did! It was very nice to see Majors Don and Pearl Pack for their second Sunday. They have mentioned that they will be attending the Vancouver Corps as their home Corps. It was nice to have one their sons, Ron and his family, join us as well. We had several visitors from the community join us, and we hope you all took time to make them feel welcome!

We have moved through Doctrine 8 of The Salvation Army Doctrines now.

Last week we looked at Doctrines 5 and 6: Salvation Provided.

This week I discussed Salvation Received by looking at Doctrines 7 and 8.

Doctrine 7 tells us that salvation is dependent on these three actions:

Repentence toward God

Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ

Regeneration by the Holy Spirit

But receiving the gift of salvation doesn't end there. Doctrine 8 points out that a person that has been justified by God's grace, has the witness in himself.

Simply put, as believers we must be an example of Christ in all that we do. It is an important part of being a believer that what people see in us is a witness and testimony of what Christ has done for us, and is doing through us.

Sunday Worship
Another great Sunday with Special Guests: Majors Ross and Agnes Hailes, Northwest Divisional Headquarters

Major Agnes gave a us review of our World Service program. While Major Ross presented God's Message which reminded us from Ephesians 6:10-20, that we are God's Salvation Army:

O - Outward seeking Army

A - Adapting to meet todays trends and needs

T - Tranforming others through faith in Christ

S - Salvation. What brings reconciliation to our Father in Heaven.

Family Fellowship

What a wonderful spread was prepared by everyone who brought something. Thank you to Julie and Lisa for leading others in putting together a fine fellowship.

Bible Bowl Bonanza

We owe huge thanks to all of the adults who participated in the Bonanza. I had a great time watching our youth work on their study of the book of Acts, and this gave them a great way to practice what they have been learning. Thanks for a great Sunday on September 17. I enjoyed the whole worship service and as always I enjoyed bringing the message of the Woman at the Well to you. Hopefully you like the geography lesson and will remember where Some Area (ok, Samaria) is. Thanks to Stephanie Orefice for sharing such wonderful piano music during our Worship on Sunday!

It was great to have Dishawna Barnard join us for the past few weeks and we look forward to her next visit. Also, it was nice to have Erik Dabis back from his trip to Southern California for the newly formed Territorial Youth Band and their performance at the Welcome of the Cadets. It was good to have Carol Hammon with us on Sunday, as well.

The Salvation Army Vancouver Corps (USA) is entering the Digital Age. We are currently working on three things to get us started:

A website that will hold general information for the public.
This blog for people who are interested in the latest in our Church activities and events.
Upgrading our sound system to include recording our service to post for podcasting.
